Academic Integration

Academic Integration — Bewegung trifft Lernen

Section titled “Academic Integration — Bewegung trifft Lernen”

Movement activities are not separate from academic learning—they enhance it. This guide shows how to integrate psychomotor activities with mathematics, literacy, science, and other subjects.

Jonglier-Zählen

Activity: Count throws while juggling

  • Count by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s
  • “Stopp bei einer geraden Zahl!”
  • Addition: “Du hast 7 Würfe + dein Partner hat 5 = ?”

Zielwurf-Mathematik

Activity: Bean bag target throwing with point values

  • Inner circle = 10, middle = 5, outer = 2
  • “Wie viele Punkte hast du insgesamt?”
  • “Wie viele Würfe brauchst du für 50 Punkte?”
ActivityMath SkillExample
ZeitwettbewerbeElapsed Time”Du hattest 45 Sekunden. Dein Partner 38 Sekunden. Unterschied?”
Teamspiel-GruppenDivision”24 Kinder in 6 gleiche Gruppen aufteilen”

Kreide-Geometrie:

  • Draw shapes on ground, hop along perimeter
  • “Wie viele Seiten hat ein Sechseck?”
  • Calculate area of chalk targets

Bewegungs-Winkel:

  • “Drehe dich um 90 Grad” (quarter turn)
  • “Drehe dich um 180 Grad” (half turn)
  • Use body to form angles with partner

Bewegungs-Wörter

New vocabulary through movement:

  • Gleichgewicht (balance)
  • Koordination (coordination)
  • Konzentration (concentration)
  • Rhythmus (rhythm)
  • Ausdauer (endurance)

Verben in Aktion

Action verbs demonstrated:

  • werfen, fangen, balancieren
  • springen, hüpfen, drehen
  • rollen, schieben, ziehen
  • klettern, krabbeln, schleichen
Movement SkillLiteracy Connection
Crossing midlineEyes tracking text left-to-right
Bilateral coordinationTwo hands working together for writing
Force regulationPencil pressure control
Sequential movementFollowing multi-step instructions
Visual trackingFollowing lines of text

Bewegungs-Geschichte:

  1. Teacher reads a story
  2. Children act out verbs: “Der Frosch SPRINGT” → children jump
  3. Freeze at adjectives: “Der MÜDE Bär” → tired pose
  4. Create sequels with new movements

Kugelfangspiel demonstrates:

  • Pendulum motion
  • Gravity pulling down
  • Force affects distance

Discuss: “Was passiert, wenn du zu stark schwingst?”

ActivityBody System Focus
Running activitiesCardiovascular (heart rate)
Balance trainingVestibular (inner ear)
Fine motor tasksNervous system (brain signals)
Strength exercisesMuscular system

Heart Rate Experiment:

  1. Measure resting pulse
  2. Do 2 minutes of jumping
  3. Measure active pulse
  4. Discuss: Why did it change?

Sommerski = Democracy:

  • How do you decide which direction?
  • What happens when one person doesn’t agree?
  • How is this like making class rules?

Laufendes A = Trust:

  • The person inside must trust the team
  • How do we build trust in our community?
  • What responsibilities do helpers have?

Movement from Around the World:

  • Traditional German games (Räuber und Gendarm)
  • Games from partner countries
  • Discuss: How do children everywhere play?

ActivityMusical Element
JonglierenSteady beat, tempo
SommerskiGroup rhythm, synchronization
PédaloBody rhythm, coordination
BewegungsgeschichtenMusic interpretation

Music Activity: Play different tempos, children move equipment accordingly

  • Slow music = slow, controlled juggling
  • Fast music = quick, energetic movements

Kreide-Kunst:

  • Draw movement tracks (spiral paths, zigzags)
  • Create collaborative murals
  • Design new game spaces

Body Art:

  • Freeze into sculptures
  • Create human letters/numbers
  • Shadow art with movement

Sample Integrated Lesson: “Mathe in Bewegung”

Section titled “Sample Integrated Lesson: “Mathe in Bewegung””

Duration: 45 minutes Focus: Multiplication tables

  1. Warm-up (10 min): Skip counting while jumping

    • Jump and count: 2, 4, 6, 8…
    • Change to 5s, then 10s
  2. Main Activity (25 min): Target Math

    • Chalk circles with multiplication problems
    • Throw bean bag, solve the problem you land on
    • Partner checks answer
    • Score: correct = the answer; wrong = 0
  3. Cool-down (10 min): Body Math

    • “Show me 3 x 4 with your body” (12 fingers/toes/movements)
    • Partner problems and checks
