Filmmaking & Cinema Camp

From the first draft to the final cut. The Filmmaking Camp invites aspiring directors, cinematographers, and editors to tell their stories through the power of moving images.


Who

Crew: Ages 12–18.
Roles: Directors, Writers, Editors, Camera Ops, Actors.

What

Project: Short Narrative Films (3-5 minutes).
Skills: Scripting, Blocking, Lighting, NLE Editing.

  • Cinematography: Mastering Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, and Frame Rates.
  • Composition: Rule of thirds, leading lines, and visual balance.
  • Lighting: Three-point lighting, motivated lighting, and mood creation.
  • Movement: Using gimbals, tripods, and handheld techniques for emotional effect.
  • Screenwriting: Formatting (Final Draft), dialogue, and “Show, Don’t Tell.”
  • Directing Actors: How to communicate vision and get authentic performances.
  • Visual Language: Blocking scenes and designing shot lists.
  • Editing: Workflow in DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. Pacing and rhythm.
  • Sound Design: Building atmosphere with foley and SFX.
  • Color Grading: Creating a “look” (teal & orange, noir, etc.).

Students work on multiple projects of increasing complexity.

The One-Shot

Tell a complete story in a single continuous operational take. Teaches blocking and choreography.

The 'Silent' Film

Create a short film with no dialogue. Focuses purely on visual storytelling and physical acting.

Festival Short

Capstone: A 3-5 minute narrative film produced by a full crew, from script to screen.


  1. Production Meeting (09:00 - 09:30) Director briefs the crew. “Shot list for the day.”

  2. Load Out (09:30 - 10:00) Checking batteries, cards, and lenses. Moving gear to location.

  3. On Set (10:00 - 13:00) “Quiet on set!” Blocking, Lighting, Rehearsing, Shooting.

  4. Craft Services (13:00 - 14:00) Crew lunch.

  5. Dailies / Edit Prep (14:00 - 16:00) Offloading footage. Organizing files. Syncing audio.
